Leyton Orient - The O's we used to just be Orient, even though we play in Leyton (East London, nr where David Beckham originates from)

Congratulations on your promotion by the way. Was down in Blackpool last week for holiday. Lovely town. Maybe I'll retire there (In about 30 yrs time)

My teams (Man City) nickname is the citizens. Awful isn't it. Although I can think of a few worse ones.

Norwich - The Canaries
Southend - The Shrimpers
Wycombe Wanderers - The Chairboys.

i support tottenham hotspur and they are called that because In 1882 the Hotspur Football Club was formed by boys from a local grammar school and Hotspur Cricket Club. It is thought that the name Hotspur was associated with Sir Henry Percy (Sir Harry Hotspur) who lived locally in the 14th century. The team later became Tottenham Hotspur to distinguish itself from another team called London Hotspur.

My club is DC United and one of their old nicknames was "the black and red" because their original home uniform featured a black jersey and red shorts. They now wear black shorts with their home uniform. They are also nicknamed "United", "The Men in Black" and the "eagles" but it's not a well known nickname, because they are from Washington D.C., the capital city of the US and the eagle is a symbol of the US.

the steel curtain was the best nickname all time,, and i hate the steelers so i really hate to give them credit in any way, they did have a killer d and the cold war was in it's prime, so it was a nickname that had no jive capabilities,,, the skins doesn't count its an abb. their nickname is the hogs you left out the dogs which always brings up images of rabbid fans that eat alpo and chuck dog biscuits on the field, and they have the coolest nickname of any bleacher section,, the dog pound awesome which brings up the coolest (in the literal sence of the word) the frozen tundra lambeau field,, one of the coolest calls in announcing history but i'm getting on a tangent,,best team nicknames,, the baltimore raisons

I'm from Liverpool originally and still support "The Reds" - obvious nickname.
I now live near Walsall who are called the Saddlers because of the leather-making industry, especially the making of Saddles, in the area.

The Shrimpers...Southend United. Reason is the seafood businesses just down the road in Leigh on sea... and we wouldn't want to be called the cocklers or the Winklers now would we ?!?!?!

I follow Norwich City. We play in Yellow & Green & have a canary on our badge, so we are the Canaries (I think Dutch settlers originally started breeding canaries in East Anglia about 400 years ago, hence a local connection).
