I disagree at year three and on. To me it really does take about two years to gain a good knowledge base on your partner but that third year is good if what you found out matches your personal wants and needs and if it doesn't you shouldn't be at year three. People hold on to bad relationships because they have time invested in them and this is not like playing the stock market. Your interest will not improve at year six if it sucks at six months. If people cut their losses with bad relationships sooner there would be many less bitter people.

No, definitely not the way it is. Your life is always yours. Sometimes the more assertive person in the relationship tries to be the dominant partner. But it doesn't have to be that way or should it. Lots and lots of honest communication helps smooth out the rough spots.

It depends on how serious your relationship is. For instance, if you live with him, you'll find out in the first year what you hate about him. Besides, if this list was always true, there would be no successful marriages at all. There must be exceptions.

Maybe you should ask happy couples who have been together for 20+ years what their secret for success is. Moms may always be right, but not necessarily your mom all the time.

It sound like your mom didn't have a happy marriage or healthy relationship. I know people (My parents too) that have been married for 40 + years that are still happy. As you get further into your relationship it is not always lovey/dovey, but that doesn't mean that it is doomed.

Your mum has a great mind..but l hate to differ alittle tho' the above is slightly true. my advise dont base your relationships on this you will break them before you get to 2, take it as it comes each person is different.
