Would such a huge victory imply that the historical presidencies were all sexist and racist? It seems to me that it's only a symbol of the equality that America represents but I see a lot of posts where race and sex are the only factor for some people to vote.

I want to be able to say, after a woman or minority figure became president, that this president was great because he represented the right policies and NOT for the MAIN reason that US stands up to its claim of equality but then realize that they were terrible presidents.

Does anyone agree or diagree? why?

You are absolutely right. It shouldn't matter. Unfortunately, there are people who will vote for or against someone because of race or gender.

Me? I'll vote for the best candidate and just hope my candidate doesn't lose due to votes based on color or gender.

I think it's important to vote someone in who is not a white man for a change. It's important because people in the U.S. generally have no experience of a non-white male president.

The idea is that most people unconsciously assume that a white man is going to be a better president. We need to break the pattern so that something different doesn't feel so foreign to us. We're way behind as a nation on this one, compared with other democratic countries. I honestly think both Hilary and Obama would make fine presidents.

People voted for Bush, for example, and he's broken most of the 10 commandments before and during his presidency. He's not so straight and moral, but people were fooled into believing he would be.

Gender and race must not be a criteria to select a President. It is just incidental that a Black and a woman are the favorites to win in the coming election.

VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know if a Black or woman will likely win.

Although, race and sex shouldn't be an issue. However, it would be nice if we either have a first female or first minority president. If America is diverse, let's give it a chance.
Obviously, no one doesn't want an incompetent president, from neither parties. But it would be nice to show ourselves as American how diverse we really are.

Sure, it's nice to see a change of pace out there, but people need to vote for the most ethical and morally straight person to lead America to the best it can be, whether that person is a male, female, white, black, hispanic, whatever. I'm not old enough to vote, but Hilary Clinton's morals aren't quite what I would call "model."

well... i agree that you should vote for those who best fit your views. that is why i disagree that we should have political parties because so many just vote for those that are in thier political parties instead of who would be the best. (both grandmothers do this, and many other people i know. )

although i have got to say the fight over racism and sexism hasn't really shown true in presidency. there are still people who vote race and male... and if one (female or non-white person) makes it into presidency, it would show that there is less discrimination... but that does not make them the best president though

so i guess i understand both sides.

i hope this helps!

I think the reason most people will vote for Hitlery is the fact she is a woman and the reason most people will vote for Obama is because he is Black. Not their viewpoint on the issues. Then when they do screw up in office everyone points the finger at everyone else and says I didn't vote for them.

I agree. It really doesn't matter to me if it's an African-American or a woman. It all depends on the peron who would represent all the people all the time.

It doesn't matter to me. I am trying to find the best person for the job. I hope everyone else will base their vote on the character and position on the issues of their candidate rather than on their gender or skin color.

I don't know. Both will be assassinated.

I'm not making a joke either. I truly think that will happen. People have no respect for life these days and you have KKK and Dick Cheney running around out there.

I think it is just like in sports though. Tony Dungy, first black head coach to win SB. Not a big deal to me but that was the first thing that came up. Great coach was the first thing to cross my mind.
