Between these two movies, I think One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest was his best performance as an actor. As Good As It Gets has to be given an honorable mention.

I love Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, and most recently The Departed. One of the greatest, most charismatic actors of all time!!

In Chinatown, he's more of a normal character, quite understated, and the plot and script drive the movie, which I think is brilliant.
In Cuckoo's Nest he gets to be more of a Jack-type of character, full of life, a total smart-a s s, and he shines. I love both movies, but I think he acts more in Chinatown, and is more himself in Cuckoo's Nest.
