Just happen to read somewhere that after death and taxes, one event inevitable to occur is a bad boss. Honestly speaking, i find some element of truth in it especially after hearing some of the experiences my friends have been through.

At the same time, it strikes a note of fear in me, as i haven't encountered a boss thats really bad yet and am really very sensitive as far as criticism is concerned. Just kind of playing on my mind as am considering a job change..

Your thoughts ......

I have worked 47 years and can tell you I have prayed for the best boss in the world to once again appear; the best boss I had was my first job ... but since then the rule of management seems to be "what have you done for me lately!" school of management. You can create perfect product for 100 days and make 1 simple error on the 101st day and get called on the carpet as if the world had come to an end.

it is very disheartening to know that people have that kind of power over you when they are obviously not fitted for the position they hold. But, they are everywhere. The only thing they want to protect is their own job. So I spend half the day sending out CYA emails to myself and coworkers.

One key question to ask any employer during the interview is about the rate of turnover. Ask how long the previous person was in the job, and how long the employees supervised by this person have stayed in the job. If there's a lot of turnover, beware. It might mean a bad boss. Also, trust your intuition, and always network while you're employed so you can find another job if you need one. It also helps to have "f-you" money saved up, which means enough money that if you have to say "F-You" to a boss, you can leave a job and have something to live on until you can find another job. It's a great feeling of security.

Look at it this way: death comes after a good life well lived (you don't know anyway, when it might come: you don't waste a lot of time in your life, thinking about that either!), taxes are paid when you have money, income, so, the affordability is there (though you don't admit it always!), in the final analysis, it is not as bad as not having any money at all!; you have a boss, when you have a job, you are therefore not jobless, which is a greater misery than having a bad boss! and, you never know, you may not come across a bad boss at all in your life, which is quite a possibility, unlike tax and death! good luck! enjoy the job, while you can! never mind the boss!
