There are actually several things that are so close that it is hard to pick just one. There are probably many more, but I will name a few.
Lack of sufficient depth, openness, and honesty in your communication.
Also, unwillingness to compromise.
Being too quick to throw it all away, without talking things out with each other.
Not standing by each other, and not being willing to put each other first.
Not being willing to give reassurance when needed.
Not being able to see both sides of an issue or argument.
One person thinking the other person is 100% at fault, instead of realizing that both are right and both are wrong.
Unwillingness or inability to meet each other half way *sm*

Money, Sex, Kids. . . .are statistically the three most fought about things in a marriage. I say marriage itself is a sure plan for ruining a perfectly good friendship.
