I totally agree that giving in to terrorist demands sets a dangerous precedent. I don't know what we should do.

I am not 'trash talking' Spain, either.

I'm from Spain. Spain backed out of Iraq 'cause the new government was voted to do so. 90% of spanish population wanted to be out of Iraq. Spain voted for the party who promised to take out the troops from Iraq, and so was done.

Terrorists may think it was done because of them but a government should keep their promises regardless what terrorist think. Do you think the government shouldn't have taken out troops from Iraq because terrorist may think it's because of them??? Spanish population decision (people were against the war before the bombings to make it clear) is obviously more important than terrorists desires. It's as simple as that.

What we have won?? Not more losses in Iraq. How many soldiers have died since Spain backed out??? None of them were spanish. How many civilians?

Is Iraq a democracy now??? Iraq is in a civil war right now. This war has been a mistake from the begginning. Terrorism is not Iraq. Sadam Hussein was a dictator but there are tens of them in Africa, people in Sudan are dying but the first world only organizes a war in Iraq. The reason is obvious.

This war has given more power to the terrorists to recruit men for their troops. What about someone whose family died 'cause of this war, easy target to recruit.Violence always brings violence. This is the worse negative consequence of everything.

This war is a waste of lives, time and money for nearly everyone except for those who promote it to take profit out of it. I'm more than pleased than Spain is not there. Even US and UK want to take their troops from there now. I'm glad we did early, I never wanted my government involved, Aznar joined Bush for personal ambition with the whole country against his decision.

Terrorists still threatening Spain 'cause we have troops in Afganistan and we are not taking them out but both countries can't be compared. So this decision didn't make terrorists stronger as some people say, attacking countries without a reason feeds them with new recruits and that's my biggest fear. Terrorism won't be finished with bombs or wars. We need to attack the cause of terrorism. There's nothing you can do when a man is willing to give out his life to kill people, not in Iraq, Spain or US (see school shottings in US). We need to make sure people are not willing to kill and that they don't have the means to do so. And they do, 'cause we (first world) do sell them weapons.

I'm sorry it's such a long answer but it's my opinion and most people in Spain would truly agree, to be honest. And I like to make things clear 'cause I know people outside Spain have misleading information about what happenned here.

Well, er..no, except pissing off a NATO ally and giving into the demands of terrorist, which in my humble opinion, is in and of itself, negative.

Well, basically, they gave their lunch money to the bully.
The way that works is: The bully promises to not beat you up as long as you always give in to his demands.

The problem is, we're not supposed to have to kowtow to a bully for a freedom we already should have.

Spain declared itself a slave to the bully.
