Everybody relies on the government to help us.

I think our government is metaphorically just our 'dad', not our God. But we can't live without a government now that we've divided the world into countries with boundaries.

All peoples had legal systems or 'governments' of sorts.
Humans survived most of their history as a species because their 'laws' socialized them to share resources, help each other take care of children, elders and other people who could not provide for themselves. This was a form of government. Humans would not have survived without being egalitarian, for the most part. From what we know about hunters and gatherers, it was usually considered wrong to have more than others. You would not have survived long if you failed to share what you had because you were going to need people to share with you some day.

That's what our government is supposed to be about, only on a larger scale. We're not in small groups that automatically provide for their weaker members anymore, so we pool our money for someone else to do it for us. We think our money is all ours. We forget that without contributing our resources we would probably have a lot less access to wealth.

If anything our country worships money instead of a government. Our government representatives are no different than the rest of us. Most of them have come to worship money too. We've forgotten about the importance, to survival, of egalitarianism and sharing resources.

I have a theory that you can tell what people have worshipped over the centuries just by looking at the cities they have built.

If it's a very old city, there is some Old Quarter that is dominated by the church steeple. Four hundred years ago there was nothing taller.

Then eventually, the City Halls, the courthouses, and the capitol buildings did in fact surpass the heights of the churches. In Washington DC, nothing may be built that is taller than the US capitol building.

Today in any city in the US (other than Washington DC or Salt Lake city) the tallest buildings are the skyscrapers occupied by the banking and insurance companies and the law firms.

The government may be many citizens' "god", but the occupants of those skyscrapers are the government's "god".

Yeah, especially the rich and big business. Just think what it would be like if there were no roads to move the goods that were made by minerals that have been taken off public lands or there were no bailouts and subsidies, or protection from law enforcement or the military.

The Government squabbles to such an extent that it is rare that anything of any good actually occurs. GOD would be disappointed if you lowered yourself to that level of expectation.
Nope, Not my God..I've had better.
