There's a famous saying which goes "There's a fine line between genius and insanity!" History is crowded with those to whom this would pertain.
There are those whose genius is beyond question but who have multiple psychological problems, probably related to their intellectual capacity. Hitler's record on community and fiscal matters made him hugely popular with the German people because things had never been better for them. If he had been sane and not taken on the rest of the World, Germany would "probably" be a great country today as a result of his management.

Hitler was both a madman and a genius. This is a little known fact but he did have parkinson's disease. If you look at photos of him later on in his "career" he is always holding something in his left hand I believe. The parkinson's disease did affect his brain and that is part of the reason he was a madman. He was also a genius because while in school he got the top grades and was able to understand everything that was taught to him. But then I think he discovered that he was part Jewish and that really made him mad. He went to Jewish schools and I think that he spoke to "God" and that is when he was "told" to purge the world of those who he thought were inferior.

You could argue both points. He was a genius in his achievments for Germany. He built the Autobahn and put Germans back to work again after the devistation of the first World War and the Great Depression. He also made Germany a great country (although by bad means). He was a madman in that he put into place a Genocide of people that he thought were "unworthy of life" (which also included Germans)

yes to both, he created jobs in Germany during their depression by building highways and rebuilding cities. He also built the military up providing jobs. He also created great patriotism in Germany. Absolute GENIUS in this way.

He failed because he wouldn't trust his military generals. He would refuse to hear what they wanted to say and instilled fear in them to question his judgment even though he was a horrible military strategist. He was convinced that the German blond/blue eyed people were the absolute best at everything and was infuriated when an American black man out ran his top runner in the 1936 Olympics. He wanted to exterminate Jews, cripples, mentally handicapped, religious people of certain faiths. He would not concede near the end of WWII and threatened his own generals when they could not deliver a victory with a defeated army or army that no longer existed. MADMAN!!!!

It is discouraging that anyone can even ask this question, but actually he was probably neither, depending on your definition of madman. (Genius has a clearly defined and accepted definition and he definitely was not a genius.)

He was egocentric and xenophobic and had so many personality disorders that psychiatrists probably have not defined them all, and he was totally amoral and lacked even the rudiments of compassion. He was also a criminal and a murderer. But one can be all of these things and not be mad. He was also charismatic and able to bind people to him and his cause in a way that we cannot today fathom.

One needn't give him a descriptive title. One should just be glad that he was stupid enough to think he could win the war and that he didn't and that he is dead.

Hitler was clearly mad, a megalomaniac of the worst sort. It was also definatly not a genius. he routinly made basic military blunders and had little graps of tough technical concepts like how to build a nuclear bomb. He did, however, possess an almost god like charisma which enabled him to inspire those around him who were very intelligent to implement his visions, even if it meant committing heinous atrocities.

Stalin - Genius AND Madman // Hitler Idiot and Madman. Stalin held onto power for thirty one years only giving it up with his death. Hitler shot himself to death in a dank reeking bunker buried beneath the ruins of Berlin of Germany. Hitler had no stragetegic vision and himself was aware he had attention deficit disorder once proudly proclaiming "I walk with the assurance of a Sleep Walker." In other words Hitler thought Fate was on his side (Hitler rarely referred to God, usually Fate). Hitler provided an excuse for killing; millions killing milions in pursuit of murky muddled mythologies.

Peace.....

He was mad, but very smart because he knew the people were desperate and starving. Desperate times are ripe picking for dictators and tyrants because the people want so badly to be led out of misery.

Ha! Both. If someone just would have stopped him at the FIRST lie, we'd be talking about something else right now.
