No. KY Jelly only.

Vaseline and products that contain petrollium jelly arent meant for vaginas.

When doctors do a PAP Smear, water based is what they use. Typically KY Jelly.

Your family likely did this because the old carboard inserts were uncomfortable back in the day, but they are now made of plastic for more easy insertion.

On the applicator before insertion,I can't see too much problem. Back in the old days, tampon applicators were made out of cardboard, not plastic like now. Probably did it to make insertion easier.

I'm sure it's fine. Are you talking about on the applicator or the actual tampon? I dont' think it would hurt you but might not make the tampon absorb as well if you but it on the tampon itself?

Yes, it is safe - many people use it for that purpose, and it doesn't seem to hinder absorption.
Some people's vaginas don't 'lube' as well as others, so they need a little help during periods.
Don't use it to lubricate a condom, though; it will break down the rubber [ buy surgical lubricant ].

well, people have used vaseline as a lubricant for other things, so I don't think there is any problem with it. Doesn't that kind of interfere with the absorbtion?

I wouldn't use it in a large amount but it should be safe. you may want to wear a pantyliner or something so it doesn't leak onto your pants and such...

not really.... but why anyway? tampons just slide on in.

I don't see why it would bother you. It may break you out though. I would ask your doctor.
