I want to be respected and have enough friends to have a social life. Popularity tho? Nope. Can't say I give a crap about what other people think of me as a person, as long as they can still be respectful to me, the only opinion of me that counts is my own.

Well, it appears I am the contrarian here.
Popularity should matter to everyone, not as an ego trip, but as a tool to give yourself and your family the best in life.
Popularity is an art form. It creates connections between people who can help you move forward in your career or when you face personal challenges in life.
For example, I retired from my career in 1982, yet, today I can pick up the phone and get a favor done by many people I have not seen in several years. These are people in positions to help me or my family cut through red tape. These relationships were based upon "popularity", mine and theirs. Birds of a feather do flock together for mutual benefit.
So, before you discount "popularity", look at the hidden benefits.

It mattered to me a whole lot when I was in middle school, but things took care of themselves and I was pretty popular in high school. Now that I'm all grown up and have realized that the world is just high school on a much larger scale, it doesn't matter to me anymore.
Priorities change as you mature.

Popularity does not matter to me nor does how many friends I have (only need one or two close friends), however being respected is VERY important to me.

Nah. Its better being yourself all the time no matter if your popular or not. People have their own way of thinking about popularity

No, I rather have one or two true friends then a bunch of people around me who doesn't really care. Respect is earned not handed out.

No it doesn't. And personally I would never want to be popular, all those "popular" people are jerks and people only like them so that can suck up.
