I like the idea of terracotta pots, acrylic paints, some brushes, the kids fill them with soil and some seeds maybe herbs or sunflower seeds. it is a huge hit, a but messy but they love it depending on age. I am 36 and would love to do this so I am sure the kids would enjoy it and they will learn something at the same time!!
the pots are so cheap and this also becomes the party favor as well.

You never said if the 17/15 year olds were girls or boys. I'll make a suggestion for both.
Girls - Simple jewelry making (bead earrings, braceletes, necklaces).
Boys - Woodworking (jewelry boxes or tie racks) and Leather crafts.
I believe boys would rather have camping, hunting, fishing and hiking trips. My three boys sure enjoyed these activities and still do.

My girlfriend took her teen youth group to a pottery store and the party there. They helped the kids pick out pieces of pottery and they each got to paint there own. She said they loved it!
Another one would be a jewelry party. I have a friend that makes custom costume jewelry and that would be a neat thing for the girls to pick out their beads and actually put something together. Hope this helps!

How about necklace making. There is a website called Fire mountain gems you can order from--or go to a local bead store or even Michael's, to get supplies. You can have a pizza making party, where they can each make their own pizza. Hope this helpful.
