Yes, it is.

"A new study suggests that even casual smoking during pregnancy harms a fetus, producing behavioral changes similar to those in babies born to mothers who use illegal drugs."

I am 8 weeks pregnant now and had 2 miscarriages in the last 6 months. I was too a smoker. I looked into and found that it is not even worth the chances. Now my best friend smoked her whole pregnancy and had a perfectly healthy baby. But not all pregnancies are the same. I read on the Internet that smoking and even being around second hand smoke can cause birth defects, low birth weight, and even still birth. Now the last thing I wanna do is carry this child for 40 weeks then deliver and dead baby. Just seems a little to risky for me. I mean I quit cold turkey and yes I would love to have one right about now. But everyone has their own standards and I can't do it. What if you smoke and you have the baby and it comes out with a birth defect.... Would it not worry you that maybe your child was that way cause you smoked? I just want to know that if something is wrong with my baby that it was God's will and not something that I did. Good luck with your decision.

The only thing smoking has been linked to is smaller birth weight and pre term babies. BUT i have 2 children and im 37 weeks with number 3. I didnt smoke with the first two. And they were born between 35-36 weeks. my 35 weeker had breathing problems, and weighed 6lbs 15 oz. My 36 weeker was 6lbs 10oz and was fine. Im now on week 37 and still going strong, and i smoked throughout this pregnancy. Im bigger then my other two pregnancies and the baby has already reached 7lbs lotsa oz's LOL. When i got pregnant this round i asked my OB about quitting, and he just said its safer to try to cut back then it is to try to quit. Stress is just as bad on a baby. and i believe that. So i cut back to about 1/2 pack a day and my baby is very healthy, strong mover, and i measure right where i should be. Actually i measure 38 weeks. And im 37. So do what you are comfortable doing, and dont let people scare you :)

I too smoked when I got pregnant. When I found out I smoked about a pack and 1/2 a day. I cut back to about 1/2 a pack a day. Then I thought about my baby having to go through nicotine withdrawls after he was born! Think of how hard it is for us to go through them! Then imagine your baby having to go through it by no choice of thier own! I finally quit at 15 weeks... It was TOUGH! I had cut back to about 4 cigarettes a day and it was still soooo hard! However, I knew it was not good to smoke because every time I did I felt guilty. Also, medically it's not good for me or the unborn. After about 2 weeks I felt much better. And, overall I feel empowered.... Like I'm ready to be a really good mom! The baby inside of me is depending on me alone to take care of it. I am ready to do the right thing no matter how uncomfortable (initially) I may feel.
If you can quit, do so. If not, at least cut back to less then 1/2 a pack a day. Just try to do the next right thing! You will feel so much better about yourself! Promise!!!
Very Best Wishes!

Yes smoking while you are pregnant is definately not a good thing. It can possibly cause a lack of development and be born premature, such as I was. I was born at 24 weeks, but the doctors said that the reasoning behind it was unknown, but I believe it was because my mom was a heavy smoker, and because of this my parents went through a lot. BUT the best thing to do is continue smoking, BECAUSE if you quit then you will be stressed, and being stressed while you are pregnant isn't a good thing neither. The fact that if you are stressed something may go wrong and you could lose your child, so my advice is to continue smoking, even though it's a bad thing.

A mother can do a lot worse things when pregnant than smoking, but that's not to say smoking is good. It compromises her oxygen and baby's and can cause low birth weight and other problems.

If you can quit, do try. Use the baby as your motivation.

Best of luck!

Yes low birth weight, asthma, ADD/ADHD when he/she gets older. So many I can't remember. Quite while your ahead not just for you but for your child. Oh and if you decide to breast feed the cig. nicotine does something to your milk and is not as healthy for your child. My advice stop smoking if not for yourself at least think about your child. A mother doesn't start after the child is born it starts when you find out your pregnant. How well you take care of yourself while your pregnant, reveals how well you will take care of your child after he/she is born.

Do you really not know the answer to this question. I mean if you smoke before you found out and then quit, it would be ok. But if you smoke the whole time that is not good.

Yes, it is very bad for the baby. Cigarettes contain a lot of toxins that get to the baby. And I'm not just handing you the over-zealous anti-smoker's line. I was a smoker but stopped when my pregnancy test came out positive. Trust me...I'd love to have one now. But the risk is not worth it.

Of course it is. It's bad for you and the baby. Having said that, I smoked through all three of my pregnancies and all three of my kids are fine. My mother smoked through both of her pregnancies and we were fine. But we all know that smoking is bad so if you can quit now do yourself the favor and quit. I wish I would have!

Ask yourself this - would you give your newborn baby a lit cigarette to puff on?

If you have answered 'no' then you need to ask yourself why you wouldnt - those reasons are the same as to why you shouldnt smoke in pregnancy - no different.

If you have answered 'yes' then you have serious parenting problems and perhaps look into getting some help in order to prepare you for parenting.

Best of Luck and please try to give up - your baby deserves you to give it your best shot!
