He wouldn't check last week. He hasn't even mentioned anything about stripping membranes, only that he may choose to induce at that point. Is this normal for a dr. to wait this long without saying anything? I had a late ultrasound last week and the baby was already 8.3 lbs. So I am a little confused as to why the delay.

He's waiting for natural labor to kick in, your due date is just an estimate, not your baby's birthday!

The doctors will delay up to two weeks late, after two weeks the placenta isn't beneficial to your child anymore. During the wait your child could decide to come and that is why they are waiting, doctors would rather see a baby come natural before deciding to induce the mother. Don't worry your doctor is doing right by you!

With my maternity leave I could take up to 12 weeks off but would only get paid the 6-8 weeks based on the type of delivery since I only could afford to be off the time i would get paid I worked up until the day before. If you can afford to take that extra week go ahead you may like the time off to relax and get everything in order.

If you've had a ultrasound, then he knows just what's happening with the baby. He could do a better job of communicating and allaying your fears, but I'm sure he's right on top of your situation. Try to relax, due dates aren't exact.

Why the rush? Babies come when they are ready. Stripping membranes hurts like nobody's business and usually doesn't do much to aid labor.

He probably wants to see if you will go into labor on your own. If he offers induction, go for it. You can get all prepared the night before, (bath, wash your hair) and not have any anxiety that hubby might be at work when you do start labor. You can have a proper night's sleep and go in and have a baby. Also with induction you are guaranteed to get the obs. that has been caring for you all along not whoever is on call.

Because, nature will takes it course. Why mess with it unless you have to.

Btw, those ultrasound weight predictors are +/- 2 pounds, so don't worry.
