I don't think it would matter if they are public or not. But there needs to be more of them. in 2005, there were ~16,000 murders, and only 60 executions. Who is afraid of a punishment that is almost never used? If your parents only spanked you less than 1% of the time you were being bad, would a threat of spanking be a deterrant? Of course not.
If there were 6,000 executions next year instead of 60, the murder rate would plummet.

Public executions are needed now more than ever!!! Rapists, murderers, child molesters. They all have some victim story or excuse. They need to be put to sleep, That is the pc way to say it. And there could be so much revenue produced by it.. The hanging of Mr.---- next on Fox!!!

No, we already have the death penalty in some states, they still have violent crime. Making it public is not going to stop someone who really wants to do the crime. Nor is it going to stop the idiot who gets drunk on Saturday night and kills someone just because they got mad or jealous. If the death penalty was going to work it would already be doing the job.

I do not think it would lower death penalty crimes. I think there are those who like the publicity and knowing that their death will be publicized would just be a bonus for them. UGH I think the idea is horrid, but a lot of people will watch.

No. It never has. Most people insane enough to commit a major crime like murder aren't going to be debating whether or not they should or not because of public executions.
I know it sounds like a deterrant, but it isn't.
Are kids that get grounded any better behaved than those who don't? No. Are kids that don't get spanked more violent than those that do? No.

No. people already know the punishment if they get caught with killing person/people. so no matter what watching people getting killed for there crime might even trigger People in liking to kill people so it could possibly make it crimes higher. Look at history they always held executions in public never stop them so why now.

no, because theres always someone who doesn't care, thinks with their butt and not their head or has some agenda other than, being 'nice' to people. ( I hate everyone, so I'm gonna kill 20 people and THEN myself.)
Public executions don't work in other countries, they didn't work here back in the 1600's/1700's/1800's. What makes you think they'll work now ??? t.v. ???

I believe it would because the next potential criminal would know extactly what could happen to him/her! I also wish our country would adapt some of the same laws others are using; steal something - they cut off a hand, kill someone - you die.
As it currently is; today's criminals are only given a slap on the hands, told "now don't you do that again". The criminal just laughs and does it again because he/she know the justice system is a complete joke. SHAME ON US!

Sure, go ahead. Turning the clock back 400 years is a great idea. Lets draw and quarter em in public too and stick their dead rotting heads on spikes, yeah that would really ennoble our society.
