It just is. Uses are irrigation and to fill the lake of Aswan. ~

The river valley of the Nile. It is where most of the crops are farmed in Eygpt. In ancient history this is where they Eygptians built their empire and all those monuments and pyramids.

In short, it was the area where the waters of the Nile irragated the land to make it fertile.
