Our new baby boy is 12 days old and is only pooping about every other day. We read that 'normal' babies poop once or twice a day. He is being breastfed and we are concerned this might be a problem...

One of my breastfed babies pooped once a week.

The ped said it was fine.

Breastfed babies do not have the waste that formula fed babies have, and can go several days without having a real poop. The yellow sticky stuff that you usually see several times a day, that we usually refer to as poop in breastfed babies, is not real poop.

It's a bit early for him to be pooping that little but it isn't completely out of the realm of normal.

Is the poop softer than peanut butter?
Is he gaining weight appropriately (I guess your next weight check is in 2ish days?)
Does he pee enough?

If you have a kitchen scale you can weigh all his diapers for 24 hours, the subtract the weight of the diapers. That will more or less tell you how much milk he is getting. Or better yet do it from one poop to the next, only weigh one poopy diaper and average it out that way.
