media manipulates the masses ; they take the same story and loop it over and over; then leave it for the next money story, no independent investigation , no follow through ; only a story if you can sell it ; only important if you can sell it; won't resurface until there is another tainting or death

I just watched a documentary on bird flu, it wasn't as contagious as first thought. As long as it is caught in the first 10 days it can be treated with high doses of existing anti-biotics. That's until a new strian develops that is resistant to existing treatments.
There are constantly new viruses or mutations of old viruses emerging. Overuse of antibiotics and stopping treatment half way through has allowed some viruses to develop resistance to treatment, much like we develop antibodies.

We should be thankful its out of the news, that means that work on these deadly diseases is in the hands of people whose life work is deduicated to investigating and curing disease, scientists, doctors and research chemists, and not in the grip of politicians and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Of course, it's also worth remembering that just because people in the US aren't dying from these diseases, it doesn't mean people elsewhere aren't. In Asia, bird flu particularly continues to take a harsh toll.

And don't forget swine flu. I think they have stopped reporting on those others because they have a winner with "global warming".
