Charles A and Mercyfulking666 provided some good Metal choices.
In terms of Goth Rock (which is NOT Evanescence):
-Bauhaus: Double Dare, Bela Lugosi's Dead, Stigmata Martyr, Passion of Lovers, Dark Entries, The Sanity Assassin, and many many more.
-Fields Of The Nephilim: this band has soo many good CDs and songs that it's hard to choose.
-Joy Division: Exercise One, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Ice Age, Walked In Line, etc....
-Christian Death: Psalm (Maggot's Lair), Cavity - First Communion, Romeo's Distress, Spiritual Cramp, Figurative Theatre, etc....
-Sisters Of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection, No Time To Cry, Dominion - Mother Russia, etc...
-Siouxsie & The Banshees: Cities In Dust, Christine, Israel, Love In A Void, Fireworks, etc...
-Love & Rockets: Kundalini Express, The Dog End Of A Day Gone Bad, Holidays In The Moon, etc...
-London After Midnight: Kiss
-Dead Can Dance: Anything by them is amazing
-The Cure (although they themselves don't call themselves Goth, they are very much loved by the Goth subculture): anything by them is amazing.
So many other bands out there. Don't be mislead by what people nowadays label "goth."

hmmm... depends on what kind of metal you're looking for. for fast paced stuff try Fight Fire with Fire or Ride the Lightning or Escape by Metallica. DragonForce is also good fast paced stuff, my personal favorite by them is Operation Ground and Pound. But Primus is also good metal, they're... different, you might say. Hard to explain. you should listen to Dirty Drowning Man or Eclectic Electric by them.

haha, wow, kinda funny how most fo the band named werent metal...
you want hard core, spit in your face death metal, forget what other people say, dont listen to old, tho it is the best, but try something new, like these:
job for a cowboy: knee deep, entombment of a machine
i killed the prom queen: say goodbye, like nails to a coffin
see you next tuesday: here, take this pill
through the eyes of the dead :2 in from a main artery, bringer of truth
all shall perish:far too long, our own grave
and THEIR FADING VALOR...only on myspace
