Your 8600GT consumes about 40 watts. You could easily toast your 250W power supply by running the 8600GT.
Your 250W power supply is weak on the +12V rail. You could be running the +12V rail HOT at near-overload condition.
Upgrade your power supply and do not just rely on minimum recommendations. Get a higher rated one w/ strong +12V rail (18 amps is good). It should run cooler and last longer.

well, you could overload your power supply.
also directx 10 isn't out yet(a stable fully released version, yes i know vista says it has dx10, but it really doesnt.), so thats prob why you get glitches/ company of heroes isnt dx10 compatible(to my knowledge) i would get at least a 500w for a 8k card anyways.
and you cannot hurt your card with a lower power supply, unless it blows up and sends surges everywhere, in which case you'd have to buy a whiole new pc anyways (and yes an overloaded PS can short circuit EVERYTHING on the mobo, and attached to it, has happened to me)

Yes, you really need to upgrade the powersupply...this card Really NEEDS it...That is why you are having problems with the card because it's being under powered...Not positive but not having enough power for the card might actually hurt it...
In any case, if you want the card to perform up to it's capabilities, then it's got to have the required power it needs...

you seriously need a more powerful psu(power supply unit),running a 8600gt,especially overclocked requires at least a 400watt(never listen to what manufacturers recommend),allways add betweeb 50 and 100 watts on top
i am only using a geforce 7600gt and have upgraded to 450watt just to be sure ,although the card only requires a minimun of 350watt
try a 500watt psu, this will double your wattage from the current p.s.u and will give you plenty of power to spare,i promise you that direct x 10 games will run fine with a 500watt power supply
a good model is the Enermax Liberty 500W ELT500AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-025-EN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=111),enermax are the best manufacturers of power supplies in the u.k
their products are second to none and this model although abit pricey will do a good job of supplying power to all your p.c,s componenets
it comes with all nessecay connectors and all the following specs.........................................

i think it's more of a software compatibility issue more then anything else. but with a powerful graphics card i would want it to work at it's full potential, so i would upgrade the power supply unit. there amazingly cheap (if you can handle the noise) but the more you pay, the more efficient in heat and noise output they will be!

yes, because it creates a stress on the graphics card. better if you could upgrade your PSU. I suggest to email BFG tech support to get a straight answer.

you have already got what they required 300wats, yet you are able to improve for greater watts, the element is to get the previous one out and take to the keep to get the comparable dimensions and conectors or decrease priced that's to place greater followers interior the workstation to chill greater valuable, however the 1st innovations is greater valuable we proceed to function greater instruments to a workstation, maximum motherboard have 3 plug in for followers.
