Rule Number 1, You are smart in not trusting mechanics at auto dealerships. 99% of them give the rest a bad name. And yeah, it's getting harder to find the few who really DO CARE about the customer. They are like the local municipal revenue generators. They know what they are and they don't even try to convince you anymore.
Rule Number 2, Always get the second or third opinion.
If it's your fuel pump , be happy it wasn't something worse. but I did have your problem happen to me twice before. In both cases; the engine was seizing up. I believe the oil pump possibility.

Sometimes it is like going to the doctor. If he tells you you are going to die You would really want a second opinion.
If the engine wasn't knocking when it quit I doubt you lost oil pressure. There are many possibilities but you could have just lost fuel pressure or the spark at the plugs.
Talk to friends or relatives and see if they have a mechanic you can trust to diagnose the problem.
I tend to find the aftermarket shops can be cheaper than the dealers but there also is the rule you get what you pay for.
The national tire companys like Firestone and Goodyear also have certied A.S.E. mechanics on hand and your repairs are guaranteed all over the country. Also when checking prices you should check the warranties with the repairs so you can find the best one.

Hi,
Its not the problem of oil pump. there may be two possbilitie i can guess wihtout seeing your car.
1.the problem will be with your carborator(If not MPFI).Just go and get it cleaned.Ask him tocheck the butter fly of the carburator.
2. Strong possibility is "You ignition plugs will be carboned" I mean ask mechanic to clear the spark plug's point and you hvae never starting trouble."If posssibloe change the spark plug" you can do it your self too becuase the you get the specific tools from the car campny when you purchase car.
Dont worry its something commone. but if it doesn't work.cosult some expert.Show then your car condition.
If possible send me name and model and purchase of yr of your car....
Thanks

Take it to another place and have it checked out by another mechanic that you trust. Sounds like it may be an electrical/alternator problem but only hands on diagnostics will tell. I have yet to fix one over the phone or Internet!! Wish I could be of more help. ;-}

You "hydroplaned" into the curb at 30 mph. I'll try to believe that. Anyways, a serious alignment may be required. Before that however, check to see if your rims, tie rods / control arms - all joints and conectors -, or drive shaft are bent. You'd need to do that lol.

I think payday might be on to something. A bad fuel pump, filter or line could be causing the the problem. If it is your alternator, the car will not have any electrical power. It will actually drain you battery.

sounds like you may have a bad alternator and fuel pump or a plugged fuel filter and a bad alternator i would star with the easiet thing to test and replace which is the fuel filter and go from there but you may have a bad engine in the long wrong take it to another shop and ask for thier diasgnosis

No
Oil pump and engine are not the cause of your proplem. No way.
However- alternator, battery, fuel pump sound like the possible problem.
