If you're talking film noir (definite creep factor and quite artistically beautiful for horror flicks), some good selections would include:
Nosferatu, A Symphony of Terror (1922)
Phantom of the Opera with Lon Chaney (1925)
Dracula with Bela Lugosi(1931)
Frankenstein (1931)
Freaks (1932)
Psycho (1960).

Now, for slightly older great horror films, you will probably want to check out:
An American Werewolf in London (1982)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Dead Alive (1992--not older, but v. funny, and worth watching)
Jaws (1975)
Alien (1979)
The Shining (1980)
A Clockwork Orange (1972)
Poltergeist (1982)
The Fly (1986)
Th Omen (1976)
Halloween (1978)
The Thing (1982)
Don't Look Now (1973)
Play Misty for Me (1971--thin line btwn horror and thriller)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (both 1956 and 1978 versions are good)
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Carrie (1976)
The Exorcist (1973)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Repulsion (1965)

Well this depends on taste, type and genre. Do you prefer Gothic Horror? Italian Horror 70's stuff splatter What!
So I think if you are into Italian Horror you cant go past Dario Argento--Suspiria, Inferno, Deep Red etc. Or maybe Lisa and the Devil, Horror Hotel, Burn Witch Burn, or anything Hammer. Or Ghosts um Sainte Ange, Fragile, 13 Ghosts.
Teen slasher like Sleepaway Camp or Burning or cult classics like Blood Feast or Vampires flicks such as The Breed or Vampire Journals (a bit slow for some but beautiful) and well the list is endless Cheers Furdion
Oh maybe go to a movie site and look on there.

The Bad Seed is a fav of mine. Not the remake but the 1956 original. While not truely a horror movie, the ending will send shivers throughout your body. Don't share the ending with anyone!

How old do you want? One of the best horror films of all time is "Them"....watch the whole thing+credits...you'll see why. Another classic is "Night of The Living Dead" (the original).
