I've been told and I see it too that many Christians almost worship the word of God and not God himself. People use the phrase "Bible-Believing Christian". Many Christians take the Bible as the FINAL END-ALL Be-ALL source for Christianity.

Doesn't that all seem to almost limit God to the Bible, and ultimately turnes the bible into God?

I think you are correct but I think you will also find that even suggesting such a thing makes many people very angry. I will go even a step further. I believe that **some** Christians have substituted their own understanding of the Bible as the ultimate authority in their lives. In effect, setting oneself up as an idol and covering it up by calling it "the leading of the spirit." Evidenced by the fact that "one Holy Spirit" has apparently led Protestants into 30,000 denominations and counting. Each one convinced that they are the ones with the "correct" understanding. It is a form of idolatry, I was certainly guility of at one time in my life and one that is quite dangerous.

Yes that is true. Unfortunately most people don't even know their bible no matter how many times they have read it. They only 'think' they do. The church has taught them to obey or be destroyed. They are more to be pitied than hurt or shunned. The church did not tell them that the ancient ways have travelled through into the bible and that they are essentially pagan at the foundation. If you take away their bibles and the most recent divine child (Jesus) they are like everyone else. Read the URL at (http://ca.geocities.com/rachelpowerslane) it will explain how the Mithraic religion travelled through into the bible that is being worshipped.

Depends of the particular denomination of Christianity. I do understand where you are coming from and in my experience many Christians take the bible a little too literally. I'm a Catholic, and at the time the bible was put together the Catholic Church was the only major Christian denomination. While we believe the bible is a great resource of tradition, wisdom, and history, our beliefs are not limited by it.

What is almost hilarious is that the Bibles they take as some kind of omniscient vehicles for the truth, contradict each other constantly. . . I guess an uneduacated Serf of the 12th century would not question the Bibles, but, anyone of the 21st century should be able to do the math and dictionary look ups that would clarify what these books state.

Well if they do worship the bible than they have a false teacher teaching them..... You are to only worship God and do the best you can to follow his word...... You have to remember that there are so called christian that go way way over board.. and that is not good way to be ...... God say do all things in moderation's.... You are not suppose to scare people away either........ Or shove your version of the good word down their throats.... Also remember that not all so called called Christians are really a christian.... And if they use scare tactics then beware of them...............................................

I wouldn't say many, but there are those who are more concerned with the letter of the Bible rather than it's intent. They are the ones who will beat you over the head verbally with the Bible, yet fail to show the slightest amount of compassion to their fellow man.
