Within an hour of him becoming an ex president, the hostages were freed. The misery index turned around. The Cold War was won a few years later. Most importantly, once he became an ex president, Reagan came in.

This is a serious question.

Half Hour News Hour was brought on for 2 episodes. It won its time slot and more episodes were ordered. It took some time to get them out.

Carter leaving office was the greatest thing he ever did for the country.

The Iranian regime isn't even bowing to Bush, so what do you expect? The supposed 'misery' index is based on assumptions. You're correct if 10 years constitutes 'a few years'. Of course Reagan 'came in' ..he was elected.

But all in all, no. Jimmy Carter, in my opinion, is not the greatest ex-president.

I lived through Carter's regime and remember all too well what it was like:

The hostage crises was and still is a terrible memory. Watching our men marched in front of our TV screens night after night.

Interest rates were outrageously high. I purchased a car in 1980 and the interest rate was 21%.

Home mortages averaged 17 to 18%.

Unemployment was 10%.

Yeah, those certainly were the 'good old days'.

Jimmy Carter has accomplished more after his presidency than he ever could have hoped to while in office. His term as President was an unmitigated disaster. It was so terrible, that I have repressed the memories and am currently in therapy to clear that up. He has MUCH more respect worldwide for his actions (until recently) after his presidency. I suppose we should thank him for making it possible for Ronald Reagan to straighten out the colossal mess he had made.

To the point...He has done quite a bit since he left office. I don't know if he's the greatest, but he is certainly one of the most successful ex-presidents. Until he lost his mind.

More to the point Regan's wife's astrologer was making all the big decisions which scared the hell out of the Soviets along w. his mad Star wars delusions. If things go wrong there now there could be a hot war that makes history entirely different in a flash. Carter was like a good doctor, he at least tried not to do any harm. Regan funded Saddam and the IRA w/out even knowing what they were about and screwed the US working man in spades.

1) The hostages were freed by exchanging weapons for them.
2) Blaming the guy in office for the economy is pretty much like blaming him for the weather.
3) Claiming to have "won" the cold war is kind of like claiming victory in a boxing match when the other guy trips on his shoelace and breaks his nose before the fight starts. Plus, the cold war was mostly an exercise in paranoia fostered by arms dealers and friends to justify spiraling defense budgets.

Yes, it is true !!

He makes a much better ex-president than he did a sitting president.

However, I don't know, the word, 'greatest,' greatly bothers me.

Personally, I firmly believe peanuts to be his forte.
