The 'media' are biased toward Chavez ' repressing his people’; when really, it looks more like he is not renewing the license of a TV station supported by an oligarchy that planned and executed a coup on him in 2002...

RCTV can still air on TV, internet, etc. In the US, it seems likely that if a station ever had any involvement in a coup it would be bombarded and everyone either put in jail or executed on the spot.

So I don't know how 'repressive' this guy is....especially when he has 80% approval rating, has allowed these guys 5 years after the coup to keep on broadcasting, and has called multiple open debates with leaders of the opposition....

Not to mention the fact the guy got elected democratically, and the radio station supported a dictator who was put in power by the oligarchy for 2 days during the coup in 2002 before they were pushed back by millions of protestors.

Most Venezuelans however, like very much RCTV's shows, and that seems more likely the reason for protest....not free speech

So--They got the dumb American media to broadcast the horrible Chavez that is ‘repressing and mind controlling the whole of population, destroying freedom and spreading the evil of communism’…wasting much of cnn’s and fox’s money…..so they can see their shows.

; )

It’s just a TV stations that a lot of Venezuelans love, even though they may also like very very much their president Hugo Chavez.

Their just complaining and used the ‘gringo’ media as their whining outlet getting the dumbasses to comply. However, on the ground as my Venezuelan friend tells me, most people don’t really give a damn…The protestors are mostly students or heavy watchers of the station who got annoyed at the close down…just annoyed at not being able to see their show….

This is starting to seem very much like nothing to do with free speech, but rather America’s stupidity and hypocrisy being put on its head, and made a joke of….once again…

Have fun with them facts….friends.

btw---I should not have used america's stupidity and hypocracy(I am american)
but america's media coverage on this particular issue.

I guess they just don't like chavez because he is being anti-american. But that's because they misunderstand, my friend tells me that although chavez is anti-american, he is not against the american people..he does not share 'bad blood' or hate..He just simply doesn't like our policies and thinks it his duty to counter the 'empirialist influence'...on top of being a socialist and being heavily rhetorical...its his nature, it does not mean that he won't send us oil in a time of need say, or wishes harm to america in the form of a nuke, for examp....

a lot of things in venezuelan culture my friend tells me is not so 'intense' or 'serious' as america usually takes things (in the as-s), and is more laidback....but for rhetorical and popular reasons, he does throw his share of cirticism more to the similarity that we throw jokes.

yes, he doesn't like america, but as he said himself he doesn't wish 'bad blood'...or hold 'greivences to america'...

in fact, he says that americans hate america more than anybody he knows. he just simply does not agree with the 'empire' and beleives them to be a 'terrible influence' in world affairs.

Chavez gets a bad rap in the US no matter what he does.

Chavez is no friend of Bush, that much is certain.
But he's also no enemy of the USA either.

While he takes great delight in bashing Bush and the government, so do we the American people.

It should be remembered that when our government makes a policy, it affects other people outside the US as well.

Chavez was providing CHEAP oil to poor families around the world - including the USA, which, of course pissed off Bush's oil cartel cronies big time. Thus, Chavez must be Public Enemy Numero Uno.

As for the TV Station closing, how many shock jocks have been sacked lately in the US? If a TV station did the same to BUSH as it did to Chavez, how long would it be until the FCC pulled their license?

The US government controls the licensing of media outlets and can pull the license anytime it wants.

When you talk out in opposition to the warfare on terror you're a traitor and whilst you talk out in opposition to israel you're an Anti Semite. I am heartily unwell of explaining that because ALL Palestinian are Semitic and best approximately 25% of Jews are that I are not able to probably be an anti Semite....and that making an attempt to give up a warfare with a view to result in the tip of the arena hardly ever makes me a traitor. God spare us the tyranny of the willfully pig ignorant, Trout. Let's purchase a big Island. transfer all of the first rate men and women there...and post an effing giant electrical fence!

Don Imus is lucky he's in America. Had he been in Venezuela he would not have the free speech we have here in America. The people in Venezuela voted for Mr. Chavez. They also thought it was funny when Chavez called Bush the Devil. Well I guess they know who the Devil really is now. Why aren't they laughing?

He's a Communist! What should one expect of him? Their doctrine calls for nationalizing all industry and means of spreading propeganda. He doesn't have the backing that Hitler (yes, I know he wasn't a Communist but the Nazis were very similar in all but racial idealogy and both were workers socialist parties) had so he has to move slowly but he is doing it.

BTW, citing a wacko group's site doesn't exactly lead to credibility.
