The earlier suggestion about spraying when the trees are dormant was a good one. Beyond the commonly used Sevin and Malthion sprays here is a suggestion that has worked for me.

"Lemon Joy", dishwashing detergent mixed, about two capfulls to two gallons of water, in a common sprayer will keep a lot of pesky bugs and worms away from your apples on your apple trees. This even helps after the trees are leafed out and young apples have started. You will need to apply it at least every two weeks as rain will wash it off. I can envision you raising your eyebrows now.

This is one of those "try it-- you'll like it", suggestions. *I was also happy to learn Lemon Joy also works on helping to keep fleas and tics off of border collies when you give them a bath using it. Hope this proves to be helpful to you. Good luck with your apple trees. (D.W.)

You need to start in early spring, and every 2 weeks after. Go to a garden center. They will explain. You're SOL this year.

You need to spray before the leaves come out or in the fall after all foliage is gone.
