yes ... just because a person is mentally challenged... that person still has to be held accountable for their actions to a certain extent. Not saying that the punishment should be the same equivalent as a sane person's.

That depends. If the person does a crime, and then stands around waiting for the cops to come and arrest him, then NO he should not be punished.
But why is it? When mentally challenged people, commit a crime, they always do their best to run away and not get caught?
Then they go before the judge and their lawyer says that "they did not know what they were doing, your Honor!"
THAT is a lot of Bull S....!!!!

It should ALWAYS fit the crime-- it would be a great deterrent
EXCEPT for the mentally challenged-- someone who is not capable of the awareness to make certain decisions can't really be held to the same standard
