I live in the State of Florida in the city of St Pete....does anyone know the law in regards to cats entering in neighbors yard and infesting the yard with fleas? I have heard that all pets should be on leashes and on their own property. I dont want to be rude but these fleas are getting way out of hand and covering my body and I am getting ill from them...maybe I am allergic as well....Kinda scared of my reactions to these flea bites....

Please let me know ANYTHING....

It is illegal for cats and dogs to be off leash off their own property in Florida. Fleas do not live in the yard--they would quickly die if they did. They must have a constant source of blood to survive, thus they live on a live host. Eggs fall off the pet and hatch, and when they become adult fleas they must find a blood meal very quickly. Warn your neighbors (try nicely) and if needed call animal services.

If you dont want the cat itself gone, just the fleas try telling your neighbors they need to get ir frontline. Then have your house sprayed, and spray your yard with an insect repellant. This should control the fleas. Tell the neighbors if they dont keep the cat in their yard, you are going to have to call animal contol.

Trust me the fleas aren't leaping from the cat into the yard, they are leaping from the yard onto the cat. Why would a flea give up a good food source. Don't blame the cat. Your yard would have fleas regardless. Thank the cat for taking some of them away for you.

Get someone to treat your lawn and go to the doctor the next time you get bitten. Talk to the people who own the cat that goes in your yard and get some Frontline or something on the cat. You could even offer to pay for the medicine if you wanted to go that far.

You need to see your doctor and also give animal control a call. If the cats have fleas, then they are most likley not getting taken care of properly. Call the SPCA and ask them to come get rid of the cats if they pose a threat to your health. Or say to their owners that they are spreading fleas all over the neighbourhood! Good luck!

Cats don't infest yards with fleas. Fleas infest yards and then infest cats. By some insect killer for your lawn.
