The correct answer is C.

The Communists were considered by many in this country to be the successors to Hitler, with an agenda for world domination. Truman felt that the US had to fight this menace, and so the Cold War came into existence.

It was this kind of thinking that got us bogged down in the Vietnam War.

Have you ever heard of The Domino Theory? It was what really got us involved in Southeast Asia, and held that if Vietnam fell to a Communist regime, so would Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand--just the way a row of dominos will collapse.
