Ogunquit Maine is a great vacation spot. It's right over the border from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Also in the area you have old Route 1 that hugs Maine's rocky coastline. Also there is York Beach and York Harbor to visit. Then if you go further north, you have the small village Kennebunkport, where you could rent a sailboat.

Stephen and Tabitha King's home is in Bangor. I have walked by it. There is the home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in Portland. There is The Tate House. There is The Victoria Mansion. There is The Portland International Jetport. There is the Cyrus Herman Kotzschmar Curtis Memorial Pipe Organ, fourth largest in the world when built back in 1921, located in the auditorium of Portland's City Hall. Organ Concerts during the summer are free, although they suggest a donation if you can do it. There are all of the beautiful islands in Casco Bay (The "Calendar Islands" because there are 365 of them!) which are easily reachable by ferries which visit all of them three or four times a day. That means you can go out to any one of the seven or so of them in the closer range along the Portland coastline and then explore the island of your choice all day and hop a ferry around four in the afternoon when you wish to come back. It is all affordable and it is a wonderful to spend the day. My favourite island is Long Island. It is one by three miles. Easily explored and delightful, and the whole thing is all set back in 1953. There is Reid State Park near Georgetown. There is summer theater at Bowdoin College campus. There is Fort Popham State Park. There is The Cat which leaves from Portland and goes over to Nova Scotia. I believe it is an hydrofoil. There is Bradbury Mountain State Park. There is Katahdin State Park (given to the State of Maine by the late Maine Governor Percival Baxter). There is Mackworth Island - it is about a mile around and make a wonderful way to spend about two hours. You can hike along the island trail and then go have lunch at The Lobster Shack out by Two Lights State Park in Cape Ellizabeth, which is about seven miles from Portland on Route 77. There is Portland Headlilght. There is Bug Light. There is Fort Williams (where Portland Headlight is located). There is the Ram Island Ledge Light. You might visit Kennebunkport and see President Bush's summer place at Walker's Point. We have a narrow guage railroad in Portland which goes two or so miles around the perimeter of the city of Portland and is a delight to everyone. There is the Portland Observatory up on Munjoy Hill. If you're here (HEE-ah) for The Fourth of July, up on the Eastern Promenade, near Fort Allen Park, you are in for the best fireworks display you have ever seen!! That gives a commanding view of Portland Harbor. There is Fort Allen Park up on the Eastern Promenade. There is historic Fort Gorges. I think by now you are beginning to get the idea. I hope my answer will inspire your visit, and I hope you have the time of your life! Sent to you with good energies from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A.

I think Chris covered it all! There isn't enough time to relish all of this state. Portland alone is a full vacation, and it's only the beginning. It can be expensive though, if you want to take in more than the free stuff.
