Well, SDI (Star Wars) missile shield is at least 10 years late already. We were supposed to have high speed bullet trains (like the Japanese have) criss-crossing the country to reduce airport congestion.

They predicted nuclear fusion (not fission) would be accomplished, and all our energy worries would disappear. In fact, as soon as they began building fission nuclear reactors, articles were published saying the power companies would stop reading peoples' meters because it would be a huge waste of time. The actual cost of the energy would be pennies.

Solar powered cars? Nope.

Non-polluting coal for electric production? Well, that is actually available now.

Water desalinization to use the oceans' waters for drinking? It can be done, but it is extremely expensive. That technology is still in the future.

Yes. We got to the moon in ten years; and the railroads linked the country. And... um... errr... ahhh...
