R = I/PT

Hey bluelinerjr,

Remember how to isolate a variable in an equation. We want to isolate R so being like a balance scale what we do to one side we must do to the other to keep it in balance.

Now to get R alone we need to undo the multiplication of P and T. So we divide both side by PT giving us: I/(PT) = (PRT)/(PT) and on the right the PT drops put leaving us with. I/(PT) = R.

Hope this helps!!

If I=prt, then I/ pt should equal r.

Dividing both side of the equation by PT leaves R by itself. I.e., R=I/PT. (where I = income, P = principal, and T = time)
