dont know about the pleasing god part but i can tell you that i have been known to self-destruct my happiness

Why would any god want someone to sacrifice their own happiness for him?
A person can take away their own happiness, however, by changing their perspective. if you think in a negative way, you will be unhappy.
And happiness is completely different from person to person. What would make me miserable could make someone the happiest person alive. Its perspective.

yes like a priest or Nun the have given-up many basic needs of nature to be one with god or the marders of Islam who willing give-up the life for the mere belief of their god. or a person is just being negative. or EMO if you will

God does not need anything so what you are saying can never happen.
Judgment is what takes our happiness away.
The moment we start to judge something we find something to not be happy about.

God always wants you to be happy, joyous, and free. If you are having feelings of loss of any of these it is Satan putting those feelings in your heart.

i think that god wants us to be happy, but he knows that happiness can get really jaded so he gives us pain to contrast it. god wants us to give things up, not so that we suffer, but so that we can help those who are really suffering.
every day, i see kids that are miserable and some of them make themselves that way. but i dont think that people do it to please god too often.
