There are 2 types of competitive Latin: International and American. If you're 11 and want to compete, you should find a studio or a teacher that teaches International Latin. The dances will be Cha-Cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Rumba and Jive. You can learn American style too, but International is a lot more competitive and a lot more fun. Many people who start out with American and want to compete end up re-learning to International.
You don't need to find a partner right away. Once you start, there is a good chance that a teacher migt refer you to a partner. Also, there are dance patner search websites. I'd recommend asking your parents to do it for you. Putting up a flyer is OK too.
You don't need a special invitatiopn to get into a comp. You just apply and fill out antry form. But you do need a partner for that. It is better to get a teacher who can advise you on it.
Tall is an advantage in ballroom, 11 is a good age to start. Ask your parents to help you out on that one. Start by looking for good classes and good teachers. Good luck and have fun.

That's a lot of questions if you haven't even started. Take lessons in all the Ballroom and Latin dances, have some fun, and if you want to specialize in the Latin dances, fine, but you shouldn't limit yourself before you even start. And it would be most strange if you specialized only in one dance, though you might become known as an expert in one.

Yeah..., each Latin and Standard. Is it dependable for me to wager that you're in California and you're dancing California Championships comp the following day? Good good fortune finally.

i would suggest salsa but it doesn't really count as international L dances.
you will get a partner later
it is better if your partner is better than you are
