Area = π r²

Since there 2 ends

Area of ends = 2 (π r²) = 2 π 64 = 402.12 in²

Circumference = 2 π r

So lateral area = 2 π r * h

lateral area = 2 π 8 * 18 = 904.78 in ²

Total area = 402.12 in² + 904.78 in ² ≈ 1,306.90 in²

The area of a cylinder is the sum of the areas of the ends and the curved side. For the ends, the formula would be 2 x pi x r^2, and for the side, it would be the circumference times the height (think of the side as a rectangle formed into the curve). The circumference is 2 x pi x r, so it's 2 x pi x r x h. You can factor out 2 x pi x r, giving you a final formula of 2 x pi x r x (r+h).

With your numbers, the result would be 2 x pi x 8 x 26. Use a calculator. (Pi is 3.1416)
