No. When I got my system as I laid out in one of your other posts, I also wanted only one 400GB but the way Carbonfrost explained to me was that for video editing I need three things that people forget:

1) A lot of ram.

2) Fast Hard Drive - 7200 RPM minimum

3) Two drives minimum since that way you will be able to work much faster with using one drive as your safe drive and the other as your scratch.

I listened to them and now I use Premier like a pro. I spend a lot of my time as a consulting editor to some local directors they really like my work which I am able to do fast so I am happy with the company.

But yeah no matter who you get it from make sure you do that. Don't get one hard drive, it can really slow you down. Also Premier is a beast so don;t forget ram, the more the better.

The only problem is that a 400 GB is going to make video editing software lag and if that happens you will have to return the hard drive. I would recommend two as well unless you can some how test it out and first make sure that it will work. If it doesnt make sure you will be able to return it. 400 GB hard drive is used for storage but not really made for fast recovery of data. Your computer also needs to have a lot of RAM and a good video card.
At the shop I work at we just had a guy with that same problem. He had bought a computer and it was lagging the crap out of it because of his hard drive. Just be careful and best of luck.

Whats the speed of the drive? How about the buffer? I would rather have one drive than two unless you are running a raid array for backing up.

7200rpm is the slowest with no less than an 8MB buffer, 16MB is better though.

Is the rest of your system up to the task of video editing? You will need a lot of RAM, get the most your system will support.

actully 2 drives in raid lowers the risk b/c if 1 fails u can swap out the failed drive and the other drive will rebuild it. But yes 4 SD editing that is plenty
