2000 years of Dogma trumps the actual truth.
Meaning the Church could know as a matter of fact that Jesus was indeed married but would never speak a word of it.
Because it would rock the Church meaning the people, to the core of there being. And there is one thing you don't mess with it's peoples religious belief systems!!! It messes them up.
They become fearful and would never trust the Church again if such a truth were revealed.
The Church would not risk doing that to its parishioners for fear of destroying there faith in God. But the real reason may be it could destroy the power that the Church itself has over them.
By changing this story or any beloved Biblical Story the Church would run risk of losing the trust and faith of its parishioners.
And would then be out of business.
It really has less to do with Jesus than it does with the Institution that Religion has become.

To the extent that it would be catastrophic to the Church, it would be because of the assumption made by many theologians over time that Jesus was not married.
Orthodox Christian doctrine (not Orthodox in the sense of the Orthodox Churches, but Orthodox in the sense of mainstream) holds that Jesus was fully man and fully God. Unless you assume that sex is inherently sinful even inside the context of marriage, nothing about orthodox doctrine precludes Jesus being married.
My personal belief, however, is that if Jesus was married, it was probably before the time of his ministry, and that his wife would have predeceased the ministry. Just from the personal level, it would seem cruel to marry someone knowing that you were going to die in a few short months, and I do not see God as being that kind of cruel. Furthermore, since the Gospels acknowledge that several of the Apostles were married, I do not think that they would have failed to mention that fact if Jesus was married during the time of his ministry.
Aside from the pictures, there is a debate based on scripture, as to whether Jesus was a nazorean (think Samson, Samuel, and John the Baptist) -- a concept found in the Old Testament. A nazorean is not supposed to shave or cut their hair. As such, a nazorean could have a beard even if they had not married.

Its not terrible. Its just not true as there is no evidence absolutely in scripture for it. As for the beard...we must remember that Jesus came from the East. For years, He has been portrayed by Western artists as being blond with blue eyes while most men from the East are much darker. So relying on pictures is pointless...Does it make a difference???! To know Him is to love him!

I wonder the same thing myself. Why is it that even though it was the Pharisees who presented Him for persecution, it was only the Roman Catholic Church who became insulted by the fictional marriage of Jesus Christ to Mary Magdalene in "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown?
It doesn't matter to me though, I know Jesus was perfect. Surely if He & Mary Magdalene were married, He is still free from sin because they were not engaging in premarital intimacies right? Just my opinion, I know I will get a lot of flak from it...but oh well. God bless all of you!!!

I suppose because it goes against what the Church has been teaching for centuries and they don't like to be wrong. Also, they've had a thing about sex for a long time. Personally, I don't see what the problem is. Couldn't he still be everything we think he is AND married?

I could go on and on of this but I won't.... It's not horrible to think they may have been married, or that they may have even had a child. This would have been kept a secret mostly to protect mother and child.

I would ask why it is so hard to accept that He didn't marry Magdalene? There is no evidence that He did.
