OK, so this is what happened, I hooked up all the stuff, mouse, monitor, keyboard, speakers, printer, and the machine won't start up, and the screen just is black. It's not beeping. I have the monitor hooked up with a blue end piece on a cable that comes with it, and plugged into a wall, and the tower. And the tower has a power coard to the wall as well. It's an old one, windows 98, and this is NOT the same computer as my other question. what do i do?

Just a guess, but is sounds like the power supply isn't coming on. This is a dumb suggestion, but have you looked to see if there is a power switch on the back of the power supply, and if so, is it on. Next, if you get a ready light on your monitor, you can assume that it's power cord is ok, try it on your tower. Could just be a bad cord.

First look for LED's(Lights) Does it power up? if not stop and check the recpicale and make sure everythiing is plugged and seated properly. Where the monitor plugs into the PC look at the 15 pin connector? Are all the pins straight? are there any bent ones?. If thier OK then carefully line up the pins with the female connector on the back of the tower. Make sure the mouse is in the mouse jack and the keyboard is in the keyboard jack. Thene turn it back on. Do you hear the monitor heat up? Do you hear the tower start up like a hard drive & CD spinning and led lights coming on? If not then you might have a power problem. Check the power strip and if you have adequate power then you have a power supply problem with the PC. If both the monitor and PC wont come up its a problem with the source.

Throw it away. If this computer came with windows 98 it and is not booting, there are endless possibilities for why it would not be running, The big ones: 1.Your Hard drive is dead, 2. your motherboard is fried. (this one is more likely because you said all you see is a black screen. If your HD was dead, you would see a boot screen and then it would go to black and say Boot Failure, System Halted) 3. Your Power supply is fried (nothing on the box would come on, no lights no fans, nothing.) 4. Your Video card (or onboard video) is dead causing the black screen. Any of these problems would cost WELL more than the computer is worth to fix. If you parted out your computer and sold it on EBAY you might make 10 or 15 bucks off of it (if you over charged for shipping.) Save up 100 bucks and buy an old used Pentium 4 off of ebay. (or wait till a friend upgrades to a new PC and ask for thiers.) A 10+ year old PC is obsolete for anything other than 10+ year old software.

Check the followings, is the power cord seated good in the tower, did you switch it on, some towers you have to switch it on from the back specially the old ones, check to see if the ram is seated good and the video card also.if after all of that checked and no power coming to the tower, it might be power supply problem, it is hard to tell you what to do without seeing what you did.
