I bought some American Eagle 1 ounce gold coins knowing they were not a good investment.

I just wanted to have some real gold and now I can't stay away from them. I just want to touch them and feel it's heaviness and beauty.

Is this a human thing or am I just strange?

I think it would be strange if you did it and did nothing else, or held onto this fascination for several months. But then it could be a hobby. I much prefer the lady who loves chocolate - now that I can REALLY understand! Except, I don't like the way chocolate melts on your fingers. Gold doesn't do that, but it can rub off on you! ;)

Scarcity and exclusiveness, there's limited gold and that's why. So are daimonds, ferraris.
We assosciate our feelings with things we own and more exclusive they are more alluring.

Think about this - why would someone pay millions for a painting? -afterall they are canvas and some paint..

Its a way of buying attention - second grade love :)

It's beautiful, it's valuable, and it never declines in its purchasing power.
