Yes, I love books and it is because my Mom read to me all the time. I'm now 48 and still love to read. I read to my kids and read to kids everyday in the classroom. Thanks,MOM.

As a child, we lived in a part of the country where summers are really hot, dangerously hot. We had no airconditioner, so Mom would make us get a pillow in the afternoon and lie down quietly on the living room floor, and then she would read.
She read good literature: Jack London, Mark Twain, Sarah Oren Jewet, and others of that kind. She had majored in Drama, and was a marvelous reader. Before each reading she would quickly review where we were in the story, and if there were a funny part, she would re-read it if there was a request. A good reader and a great Mom for sure. We all (three boys) earned advanced degrees and remained avid readers throughout life.
I read to my girls, and like my Mom, I "did the voices." No good without "the voices."

Not so much as reading, as singing. My grandma always you used sing
'You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine, You Make Me Happy, When Skies Are Gray, You'll Never Know Dear, How Much I Love You, Please Don't Take My Sunshine Away.'
AND
'I Love You, A Bushel In A Peck, A Bushel In A Peck, And A Hug Around The Neck'.

Yes, my mother read to me constantly, and my dad had some storybook he used to read to me about an owl and a lightning bug, and when I learned to read on my own, I would devour books by the ton. Still do, as an editor, and a grandmother, and I read aloud to the little ones now.

Sure do! My uncle kept me in Dr. Seuss books (The Cat in the Hat was one.) After he read them to me a few times, he would intentionally leave something out...and I always caught him! I still credit him with the fact that I love to read after all these years!!!
