As a coping mechanism; to hide their insecurities;

Not all of them are like that though, it is largely depends on the circumstances around their childhood. For example, if being arrogant helped them get their way -it will get entrenched in the nueral pathways -which leads to the habit.

There's no pure economic, racial, regional reasons for being arrogant - it is largely socially cultivated. Poor neighbourhoods are tough environments to grow up, may that explains your question in terms of statistics.

can you define what exactly an "uppity poor" person is? I think it may be an oxymoron.....

Poor people have pride just like the rest of us. Think about it....how would you feel if you had no choice but to accept handouts and people looked at you with that look of pity in their eyes? Sometimes pride is all you have, and sometimes it comes across the wrong way.

where on earth did you get this? listen to yourself! there are people out there who have to survive on nothing...literally...and are too proud to ask for help. that's not uppity. and i believe we've discussed the word 'arrogant' before. do you have any idea how arrogant this question sounds?....please rephrase!

Excuse me, but where did you come up with that stupid question????? "Uppity poor". I know many poor people that really do have self esteem which maybe you cant comprehend. Therefore you must be confusing being "uppity" with having self esteem.

I agree, this question is elitist.
All people should firmly believe that they are as good as the man standing next to them.
Just because they don't have money doesn't mean they aren't valuable.
Especially to the people that care about them.
