it often will cause you to go into labor, as it sends the baby into distress. It typically happen when you go overdue, so odds are you will be fine.

You, personally will not feel any symptoms like being ill. However, it could send the baby into distress causing it to slow down in movements. The more overdue you end up being, the higher the chance and if you're late the doctors will be looking for this when you deliver. However, some babies have this happen earlier and it isn't discovered until the water breaks. You may end up going into labor if the baby is in distress but this isn't always the case. Just don't sweat it and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy because there's nothing you can do before labor to figure it out. Hope everything goes well for you!

It is called meconium. The baby usually does not pass his/her first bowel movement until after birth...It is dead made of of dead skin cells and such that the baby has been storing since the digestive tract was developed. It is not altogther too rare. There are many things that can cause this and sometimes no one knows why it happens. Taking Castor Oil or another laxative can cause this...Being post-mature, meaning 42 weeks+ gestation or stress, can all casue the baby to pass meconium. Usually it is not a reason by itself to do a c-section. The concern is if the baby breathes in the meconium during birth into its lungs there can be serious complications. Depending on the amount of meconium present at birth they will try to either flush it out by criculating clean fluids back into the uterus, or when the head is born before he/she breathes they try to suction it all out, so that way they decrease the risk of breathing it in. Hope this helps.

My second child passed his and we didnt know until my water broke and it was yellowish green in color. He spent three days in the hospital and I had to go home without him for two days. it sucked. I didnt notice anything not even a decrease in movement from him.

Until your water breaks it is imposible to tell...it is called miconium, it is only dangerous if the baby inhails the miconium before it is born.

The only way for you to know is if your water breaks and the fluid is not clear--it will be a greenish brown color.

Usually the Dr can tell. When they broke my water we knew that she already went and we had to speed things up.
