Not to worry as that partition is used for the operating system only, that's why it says its full.

Right click on your C drive, click properties, there you will see all your available free space.

Most HP notebooks have the hard drive partitioned so it shows up with 2 hard drives in 'My Computer'.
The first is C drive, which is the one you use.
The second is the partitioned drive.

On the notebooks that don't come with any windows cd's or recovery disks, the second drive is what its all stored on. Instead of inserting a recovery disk you tap a certain key on startup and it accesses that second drive for pc recovery.

DO NOT FORMAT THAT DRIVE

I work for a HP reseller and my role is to sell refurbished machines. My advice is to create a recovery disk and do not touch the second hard drive. Its there for a reason.

Sound like you have a used notebook, its not uncommon for shops to resale customer returned notebook without throughly cleaning them.

Well was the laptop new? It might have been refurbished.

Sounds like you got a second hand one... unless drive D: is your CD-ROM.
