Giving and sacrificing of yourself UNCONDITIONALLY no matter how bad you have it, so that somebody else can have it a little bit better.
One of my fellow Marines once sacrificed his own life by jumping on a live grenade, just so his "brothers" (or as you would call it fellow Marines) could live and make it back to their families. This is the ultimate sacrifice, and later one of the Marines whose life that was saved, named his son (his wife just found out she was pregnant at the time) after his fallen Marine.

Sacrifice is the route to becoming a martyr. Martyr's feel happy in the moment, but over time and after many sacrifices they feel bitter and resentful at having given so much and received so little.
If you plan to sacrifice for another, do so out of choice and with no expectation of reciprocation, otherwise, you will suffer.

It's a human sign
When things go wrong
When the scent of her lingers
And temptation's strong
Into the boundary
Of each married man
Sweet deceit comes calling
And negativity lands
Cold cold heart
Hard done by you
Some things look better baby
Just passing through
And it's no sacrifice
Just a simple word
It's two hearts living
In two separate worlds
But it's no sacrifice
No sacrifice
It's no sacrifice at all
Mutual misunderstanding
After the fact
Sensitivity builds a prison
In the final act
We lose direction
No stone unturned
No tears to damn you
When jealousy burns

to sacrifice is to express love, gratitude or devotion...when someone makes a sacrifice for me, that is what they are expressing to me...sacrifice is perhaps the greatest expression of love...
