Unless they are properly and humanely euthanized prior to frying, YES! The cruelty saddens me beyond words. There really needs to be a government watchdog group to monitor this, but it would really only serve to govern restaurants. They can't be in every back yard, ensuring that gardeners are complying. This is a serious issue you have raised and, at least for now, there are no good answers. I can only hope that people become more aware, and eventually vegetables begin being treated with the respect and humanity they deserve.
