i need to know what effects were gained from the the media of the 40's. like the radio, newspapers and etc. thanks

You probably can split the 1940's into two sections. There were obvious restrictions on broadcasting during World War II. Programming had more ties to the war effort -- fund raisers, etc. There was a certain degree of censorship on reporting, which was accepted. (This is still in force today -- remember the problems when Geraldo Rivera accidentally gave away a military position?)

Television research was put on hold during the early 40's. While it resumes after the war, it wasn't a big part of everyday life in that decade. Sets started to pop up in homes in the 1950's. Radio was still king throughout the decade, providing entertainment to the masses.

Newspapers were at close to the height of their influence. Most cities had at least two major dailies, and the bigger ones had many more. That would change in the 50's, as competition started to cause casualities.

My dad was in WWII. He said, in those days, the media didn't try to influence or sway anybody to one side or the other like they do now. It wasn't as political. They merely reported the facts or nothing at all. He said it helped us win the war.

we had multi newspaper cities. we had morning and evening
editions. they put editorials on the ed page. no opinions on the front page. people believed in the written word.
