What if you went to bed tonight hating a particular race or ethnic group, and awoke tomorrow morning the same race as the person you hated? What would you do? Love or Hate? Live or Die?

daddymatt. I wish we were all as oblivious to life as you. But here on Earth, there are people who despise me because my skin is brown. i merely wanted to know whether or not they would feel differently if they wore my skin for a day. Is that okay with you, oh Leader of Tolerance and Feigned Perfection?

First of all this is an amazing question and I commend you for asking it! I love people for who they
are bottom line regardless of race religion or whatever else people haters can come up with.If I woke up looking any different than I do now it wouldn't matter because I would still be me on the inside;)

Skin color is just that skin deep and has nothing to do with what I am as a man. What ever color my skin is I would like to think that I would try to be a good person.
I think I would love my ethnic group what ever it may be.
I was raised to think I was Italian. NOt that it mattered but ok.
that is what I am. Only to find out a few years ago my ancestors came from Mexico. Was I upset? NO, I am still the same person and frankly I really didn't care.
What difference does it make?

There was actually a movie made about this same concept when I was a child. It was called "The Watermelon Man." Here's what it says on wikipedia:

Watermelon Man is a 1970 comedy-drama film directed by Melvin Van Peebles and based on the book The Night the Sun Came out on Happy Hollow Lane by Herman Raucher. Written by Herman Raucher and distributed by Columbia Pictures Corporation, it tells the story of a typical 1960s, somewhat bigoted white insurance salesman named Jeff Gerber who wakes up one morning to find that he has become black.

That is an excellent question. Most people won't hate themselves, so a bigot would probably change his/her tune pretty fast in this situation. I would like to wake up as a different race for a day, just so I could better understand the world from a different perspective.

I'd still be the same. I'm a mixture of races anyway. I wake up every day in someone elses shoes. There are people in every race that I don't really care much for, but it's their character that I don't like not the color of their skin.

They would live with it and go on to hate someone else. It is in thier geno. They hate themselves so thier lives is not complete withot hating someone else. These so called racists amaze me in so many ways. I remember when I came back from Saudi (many years ago) and we got this grand ceremony is Weisbaden Germany. I got orders two weeks later that sent me to Ft. Bragg NC. Two days after I got there, it was a Klan Rally in Fayeteville they were sceaming how blacks were destroying the moral fiber of America. I thought to myself, We, blacks just got back defending what America is and all you can do is run around in your bed sheets complaining.

Everyone is sooooo racist until a black or jewish surgeon has to holp save thier life or someone' life close to them. They have no racist words when a police officer of the race that they claim to hate so much, keep them from being the victim of a crime.

A racist is the worst kind of hypocrite because they do not have the sense to realize that they are one.

Its not such a hypothetical question when you think about it. Ok you wont go to bed & wake up the race you hate (if you do hate any race.) But I believe we will all at one time or another, through many different lifetimes, be every race & gender there is, through every religion & class, with every experience there is to experience.
How scarey is that?!

Live & Love....I spent 2 1/2 years in Nigeria....Everytime I took public transport somewhere (someone pointed and said Oybo, Oybo, (White person, white person)...I had a choice to be a godly example or to hate them for stating the obvious...(Even with a tan I'm very, very, white. I can't hide it. :-})

So I learned to do what I would do what I could....quite often we were surrounded by children....we would show the children something very white like a piece of paper and ask the color...they would say white....then we would hold it up to my very pale arm and ask what color it was....eventually they would come up with tan...a very light shade of brown. Then we'd do the same with something very black....like a pair of shoes and compare it to their skin...It wasn't the same black....more like a very dark brown...then we'd mention we were both brown....just different degrees of the same thing.
So if you ever hear a Nigerian say he/she is brown, you know where it came from.

Blessings bro.

True, I believe in reincarnation, and I think its ironic how many racists were likely another race or gender in their past lives. For instance, a black person who hates white people today and blames ALL white people for the past just may as well have been a white slaver in his past life; or maybe someone who dislikes asians or looks down upon women could've been asian or female or had experiences in his or her past life that affected their lives today.

Love that race so I can love myself.

It wouldnt be hard seeing that I dont hate any race.
I believe weve had past lives where we were different races, male, female, rich poor, etc.

So it could happen in another life!
So watch out there now!
Don't be scurrred!
