Many families live like this, If it bothers you that bad, then it probably won't effect you. However, it may have a reverse effect and make you a neat freak, which can be a problem too! I suggest you find a happy medium and care for your personal area's only. Keep your room cleaned and do your own laundry. Separate yourself from the sum of your household. They live like that, but you don't have to. Sadly you have to avoid friends coming over! but outside your home no one would suspect it! And don't let it bother you or you could become "OCD" in the opposite of your family!

I think maybe you need to write a letter to them, and leave it somewhere they will see it and read it while you aren't home. Just explain that this situation is making you depressed and you are the target of snide remarks because your clothes and bedding smell... This is a serious situation. If anybody were to ever report this to social services your parents can go to jail. It is actually a crime to keep a disorderly house. Here in Iowa people do several months sometimes depending on the condition of the home and if children were involved. Explain to them that you do not want to end up in foster care and you are concerned that somebody might make a report. It is going to take alot of work to get them to change their ways, which I am sure has been set into a habit over many years.

That sucks, man. I'm sorry.

You may have to deal with it until you're 18 if you are unwilling to get the help of CPS.

Since you are aware that there is a problem, then it probably won't happen to you as you get older.

It seems to me that your parents are suffering from severe depression or another mental illness. Are there drugs or alcohol involved? This is not a safe situation for you. I know you love your parents, but you are not helping them by allowing them to continue to live this way.

Take some pictures so you're not accused of lying about it in the future.

Do your best to keep yourself and the areas you use clean so that you do not smell. Shower daily, and clean the shower whenever you take one. Wash your sheets weekly, at least. Close the door to your room after you clean it. This shouldn't be your responsibility, but it is.

Why not talk to a school counselor? They can help.

I wish you luck.

You can't continue to live this way, it is unhealthy. So even though you don't want to call cps, you will have to. Try to wash what you can of your room, sheets, clothes as often as possible. You may have to be the clean person in the house and do as much as you can to clean what they don't. Empty the fridge, take out the garbage, clean up after.the cat and dog. It's not going to change them, but it can mean your life is a little easier. You can't bring anyone to your house like this and you won't get the habit because you already know that clean is better. Call cps.

Some good answers here already but here's another idea: Maybe you could get rid of the animals somehow? Take them to the SPCA but make it look as though they ran away from home or something? They seem to be causing the most disgusting and unhealthy part of the problem. I agree with others who said your parents sound like they need psychiatric help of some sort.

You could have someone else turn them in anonymously. You shouldn't have to live in a pigsty. The animals have placed their scent in the house and won't stop doing their dirty deeds there bc they are not properly trained. Your parents have emotional problems that are affecting you, and that's sad. I understand you love them, but they do need help. Try to find someone to talk to about it privately. I'm sure it's embarrassing for you, but try to do as much as possible to keep your own area clean.

Wow, that sounds bad. I suggest sitting down with your parents and discussing this. If they don't take it seriously, I would call some sort of service..that is unhealthy to be living in such a disgusting environment.

Call the Health Department.

You can talk your folks into paying for a weekly/monthly maid service. You can clean some more. And if it is really bad, you can talk to administrators at your school about your concerns.

I'd call child protection agency. Or someone! Ask a counselor at school what you should do but it's not healthy to have to be forced to live in those conditions!
