When I try to print something it goes into some kind of fax mode. It says no printer is hooked up at all. The connections are fine. Any suggestions?

First, make sure you followed the installation procedure before inserting the Driver/CD installation software.
Are you sure you did'nt turn on the printer before installing the software/driver ? And did'nt connect the USB connection to the PC yet ? These are the basic and fundamental procedure that will help make your printer work properly, if the printer is hooked up to the computer. If the printer's operation is independent from the computer, then you have to scrutinize fully the manual operations of the printer through the User's Guide Manual or get advice from the dealership or the manufacturer.
If the above was not being complied, you have to re-install the Printer's driver/software, but first uninstall the previous installation.

Go the HP website and download the software for your printer there.
