How much time it took for you to learn to read and write music?

It's funny, I never considered this question before! LOL!

When music is something you love, it doesn't matter how long it takes. It's the end result that matters. The fullness in your soul and the happiness in your heart...They can't be measured! ;-)

That being said, I was very young (7 - 8 years old) when I learned to read and write music. I had a very tough teacher. She wanted only perfection--which was difficult for me. I wanted to enjoy the wonderful sounds.

She taught music theory though and entered me in music writing contests--which I excelled at--so all in all it wasn't all in vain.

Altogether I had 2 1/2 formal years of piano and theory instruction and more years of vocal instruction.

I was in high school when everything came together for me suddenly one day. That was the day I realized I could take chords from my dad's guitar music and play them on the piano.

Writing music after that was easy for me, because I've always enjoyed writing of any kind.

I usually play and sing at least an hour a day (I'm not really sure how long I spend at it, but I play until my left hand gets tired and starts hurting.)

Took me 2 days to learn 2 read and 1 year 2 write. My brother on the other hand took 1 day to do both.

Years, because I started as a child.
I think an adult could learn to do it well via a one-hour lesson once a week over the course of a year.
You could probably actually learn the basics in about 9 or 10 hourse, but it's the application that needs the time....

Not very long at all. A couple of hours a day for a week gave me a good basic command of music. After that, it was like learning any other language - you picked up additional bits and pieces as you needed them.

It only took me a couple of weeks to learn to read in a one-hour-a-day class at school. That doesn't give you a talent for writing.

I started playing piano at three, so I don't remember NOT reading music.

My father picked it up within a month, a couple of hours a week, when he was in his 60s. Of course, he already played music, and it was just a question of learning to "see" what he was done.

Takes a while. But if you really practice hard then you can achieve it faster than people would exspect. Maybe your a musical genius? Its different for everybody! Keep playing !

i learnt how to read it in music class, it took me about a week, and writing it just took patience and practise, you should have it down in 2 weeks for sure
